Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira (3-1 MMA / 33-7 kickboxing) makes his anticipated UFC debut this weekend on the prelims of UFC 268. Pereira is a towering middleweight standing at 6’4, with tremendous knockout power and kickboxing prowess.
Pereira makes his transition to MMA from kickboxing, where he was a Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight champion for Glory Kickboxing, the world’s premiere kickboxing organisation.
Pereira’s most notable career achievement, and that which fuels his hype coming into the UFC, is his decision and knockout victories over Israel Adesanya. The two men met once in 2016, and again in 2017 where Pereira floored Adesanya with a thunderous left hook, winning by knockout.
Debate has formed over whether Pereira can be the one to challenge Adesanya for the middleweight throne. Adesanya is clearly leagues above everybody else in terms of striking, and could meet his match yet again if Pereira can put some wins together.
Pereira enters his UFC debut with a MMA record of 3-1, and faces off against Andreas Michailidis, a relatively unknown fighter with 4 knockout losses, could this be a fight set up for Pereira to win? There’s big money in a Pereira v Adesanya grudge rematch!
What do you think? Do you think Pereira stands a chance against UFC calibre opposition? We’d like to hear your opinions, comment below!
