Ever active MMA veteran Andrei ‘Pitbull’ Arlovski returns once more this Saturday as he battles Jake ‘The Prototype’ Collier. Arlovski is looking to make it 4 victories in a row now as the 43 year-old defies all odds on the world stage for MMA. Collier had a rocky start to his HW career after being rocked by Tom Aspinall, and has since rebounded winning 2 of his last 3. How does this matchup play out?

A plodding fighter, Collier isn’t terribly active on the feet, but has a legitimate submission threat. He favours boxing, and does carry a lot of power, considering he’s 6’3, 265lbs. Collier isn’t a 3 round fighter, he gets beaten to the punch a lot in his fights. In his victory over Gian Villante, Collier was beaten to the jab and was gassed even in the early rounds.
Andrei has made a career resurgence dismantling the hopes and dreams of heavyweight up and comers. The living embodiment of mixed martial arts, Arlovski utilises all facets of the game to win his fights. He’s a bad matchup for Collier. So how does he win this fight?
Arlovski wins this fight with the striking exchanges. He mixes it up with punches and ends combos with strong kicks. With someone like Collier, who is very top heavy, kicks are exceptionally effective since they stifle mobility. When Collier struggles to move, he’ll lean on punches and give Arlovski free reign to play with the hands. I highly doubt Collier will prove a grappling threat against Arlovski.
Now for the controversial part. Arlovski hasn’t finished an opponent since 2015. Collier is a stationary target, since he’s such a slow HW. I’m confident that Arlovski should be able to land some solid shots on his lumbering adversary. Since Collier has been finished before, and Arlovski still carries power, I’m going to predict Arlovski by his first finish in almost 7 years.
