Danaa Batgerel enters this matchup as the slight favourite, whereas I favour Kyung Ho Kang. Ground fighting and submissions is Kang’s route to victory, seeing as he has a 65% finish rate by submission in 17 career victories. Standing an inch taller than his adversary, Kang also has the reach advantage, which translates to more submission opportunities on the ground.
Danaa is going to find it hard to close the distance on Kang, as he utilizes a sort of fluid hopping motion to traverse the ring. When Danaa does close the distance he likes to sit down on his shots and either shoot down the barrel or wing wide hooks. In either scenario he will be open to Kang’s takedowns (Kang with a 59% takedown success rate). Per UFCstats.com
Without the hail mary knockout punch, Danaa will have to compete with Kang’s 2.23 takedowns landed per 15 mins (on average). With a takedown defense of 57%, he’s more than likely to go to the mat with Kang. The superior grappler in Kang should be able to control the pace on the feet, and accumulate control time on the ground. The takedown and submission threat of Kang is too significant in this matchup.
