Our first WMMA fight of the night sees two top contenders clash heads, elbows, and knees, at a chance for title contention. Virna Jandiroba (17-3-0) is an incredible submission threat at women’s strawweight, with a slightly rocky 3-3 record in the UFC. Despite her record, Angela Hill (13-11-0) is top level talent; she is slick off of her back and has incredible Muay Thai.
On paper it seems like a matchup made for Jandiroba, but I think it’s more complicated. Angela’s been on a bumpy streak recently, dropping fights she arguably should have won on the cards against the likes of Michelle Waterson, Claudia Gadelha, and Amanda Lemos. Her record is deceptive, in my opinion she’s been robbed from victories at least twice.

Realistically, this is a grappler vs striker matchup. Jandiroba has 13 submission wins in her 17 victories, whereas Angela Hill hasn’t won by submission at all. On the flipside, Hill has 5 KO/TKO victories and regularly drops her opponents, and Jandiroba has just 1 KO/TKO victory.
Jandiroba’s route to victory is to thoroughly out grapple Hill and hopefully secure a submission. The level of opposition she’s faced in the UFC doesn’t bode well, however, as she’s beaten sub-par opposition and lost to every big name she’s scheduled to fight. Hill on the other hand has had dominant performances and should have won fights against some of the most competent athletes in WMMA.
Since Jandiroba’s grappling is so good that she can afford to have rudimentary striking. Rudimentary striking will carry a fighter in WMMA, until they meet a competent striker like Angela Hill. Jandiroba repeatedly got tagged and nearly put out by fighters like Amanda Ribas, just imagine the possibilities with Hill’s superior striking ability.
Granted she can deny takedowns and defend submissions, I can see Angela Hill piecing Jandiroba up on the feet and perhaps even securing a finish. It’s a tough one to predict since Jandiroba’s grappling is such a great equaliser, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say Angela Hill wins the fight by KO/TKO if not UD.
