Coach Rips ‘Leech’ Colby Covington in Brutally Honest Rant

Ray Longo, co-owner of Serra-Longo and coach to three UFC champions, including Aljamain Sterling, couldn’t have offered a more scathing critique of Colby Covington.

As far as UFC performances go, few have been met with as much scrutiny as Covington’s at UFC 296. The American fighter tanked his popularity when, after an all-time lackluster performance against Leon Edwards, he squandered the opportunity for fan-sympathy by doubling down on his character during his post-fight interview.

“You know I’ve had a long layoff so a bit of ring rust had something to do with it,” Covington admitted as the crowd began to boo. “But, I want to shout out all the first responders—” Covington’s shtick fell on deaf ears.

Covington, initially embraced by a crowd that favored him just 25 minutes earlier, found himself engulfed in a sea of boos and jeers. Despite the lingering pro-Trump and pro-troop sentiments in the air, the atmosphere remained unhealed, the wound too deep to be mended.

Longo, speaking on the ‘Anik & Florian‘ podcast on December 19, had some harsh remarks for the former interim champion:

“He can go f*** himself, couldn’t give a s*** about that guy,” Longo remarked. “What he did with Leon Edwards I think is atrocious. You know there’s promoting a fight and then there’s being a total misfit in life…”

Longo was disgusted by the insults Covington hurled at Stephen Thompson during the UFC 296 pre-fight presser:

“The guy attacks Wonderboy!” Longo exclaimed. “You see Wonderboy handle that? You can’t even attack him – that’s how nice the guy is… he’s calling the guy a pedophile — this guy’s a piece of s***.

“…Colby, you’re sucking the f****** life out of the community, just like a leech on society.”
