UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili and flyweight champion Alexa Grasso have called for a double-championship fight at UFC 300.
Weili shared a screenshot on Instagram on December 19, showing her and Grasso confirming their intentions to fight each other at UFC 300.
“Hi champion,” Weili prompted Grasso. “Maybe the fans want to see us fight at UFC 300.”
Grasso replied, “I admire you so much! And I’d love to defend my title with you. Would you make 125?”
Not only would the bout potentially unify the women’s strawweight and flyweight titles, it would also be a competition between the #1 and #2 ranked pound-for-pound (P4P) female fighters. Grasso currently holds the #1 spot P4P, and with a victory in this potential matchup, she could hypothetically fight for the bantamweight title and have the chance to become the very first UFC triple-champion.
The bantamweight belt is currently vacant after Amanda Nunes retired earlier in 2023. Raquel Pennington and Mayra Bueno Silva will compete for the title at UFC 297 on January 21, 2024. Since UFC 300 is on April 13, this timeframe does allow for a potential SW+FLW double-champion vs. BW champion super fight — perhaps at the Las Vegas Sphere later in the year.
