Jiri Prochazka overcame early adversity to TKO Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 300.
‘BJP’ struggled with leg kicks in the first round as Rakic tenderized his calves with smashing kicks. Bruised but not deterred, Prochazka continued to enter the fire, enduring a cut over his eye, but hurting Rakic nonetheless. The Czech fighter lost the opening frame but found his rhythm in the dying moments.
Round two was the same as Rakic returned to form with his crushing kicks and snappy jab. This was all in vain as Prochazka — spurred on by the damage he was taking — stormed down his Austrian foe and applied pressure. It was too much for Rakic as he ate a clubbing overhand which sent him reeling across the octagon.
Smelling blood, Prochazka crashed into Rakic and the fight found its way to the ground. ‘BJP’ began raining down offense from the top, even mixing in some malicious techniques by bending Rakic’s arm behind his back.
In his post-fight interview, Prochazka registered his interest in challenging for the title in his next fight. The light heavyweight title is being contended for in the UFC 300 main event between champion Alex Pereira, and challenger Jamahal Hill.
Pereira handed Prochazka his first UFC loss at UFC 295 in late 2023, with many believing the stoppage was early. Hill also provides an intriguing matchup with his quirky, yet heavy-handed style of fighting.
